Tripping Program Description
Bremen Landing & Hog Island
Kieve's fourteen acre oceanfront property
in Bremen, Maine offers stunning views of Musgongus Bay and
the opportunity to test one's overnight camping techniques
in a safe and beautiful environment. Bremen trips usually
include funyaking around a protected bay, exploring the shoreline,
games on the deck, humongus amounts of tasty food, and songs
and stories around the campfire accompanied by ever-present
S'mores. Hog Island is a 330-acre island in Muscongus Bay a few hundred yards off the dock from our salt water Bremen property. Hog has been owned for many years by The Audubon Society, an exemplary organization with whom Kieve has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship. This past summer we stepped up the Kieve-Wavus/Audubon collaboration. Only a short paddle from our mainland dock, our campers enjoyed overnight camping trips, learned about their surroundings from Audubon naturalists and our staff, listened to the birds sing and lobster boats work, hiked the incredible 3 hour perimeter trail, swam and kayaked off the many Hog beaches, attended Leave No Trace workshops presented by Maine Island Trails (another excellent Maine non-profit organization), completed several stewardship projects, and watched the sun go down and the stars come out night after night. We are honored to be entrusted with helping Maine and National Audubon protect this jewel of an island and teach future generations to respect and revere the natural word.
