Programs

Kieve's Leadership School offers a variety of programs which have at their core the common goal of encouraging responsible decision-making in adolescents by increasing self-awareness and self-confidence, providing accurate information, and teaching important coping skills. In all programs the teaching methods are "affective". Instead of being lectured to, participants are presented with concepts, vocabulary, issues, and problems, and then interact with each other in activities that address the particular topic.

Residential Programs

    • Traditionally 3-5 days in length.
    • Takes place on the campus of The Leadership School at Kieve on the shores of Damariscotta Lake, Nobleboro, Maine.
    • Over half of the cost is underwritten by Kieve-Wavus Education, Inc.
    • Course work centers on:
      • Raising student aspirations
      • Creating safer school climates; both physically and emotionally
      • Helping students set and map out goals for themselves
      • Encouraging students in good decision making, positive risk taking, and the formation and maintenance of healthy relationships
      • The student class day begins at 8 am and ends at 3 pm. 
    • Staff supervised Choice Time and Evening Program activities take place until lights out in the evening.
    • Students eat 6 times a day (3 full buffet meals plus snacks) are housed in energy efficient winterized cabins and are supervised by The Leadership School staff 24 hours a day.
    • Teachers from the sending school are encouraged to take part in the Teachers Workshop offered during the Residential Program (see details below)
    • Parents are encouraged to attend the 1-day Learning Together Workshop (see details below)

    • 5 Day Residential - $195 per student
    • 4 Day Residential - $180 per student
    • 3 Day Residential - $165 per student

Teacher Workshops
Teacher workshops are designed to expand teachers' professional and personal goals. Continuing Education CEU and/or Professional Development Points can be earned at these courses.

  • Discussion revolves around how teachers can bring the tools, techniques, and The Leadership School message back to their own schools
  • Strengthens the in-school teacher team
  • Available free of charge to the Partner Teachers who attend the Residential Program with their students

"Learning Together" Parent Workshops

Offered on the final day of many residential programs

Learning together is a half-day seminar for parents, guardians and teachers from your school community to discuss common concerns and strategies for continuing The Leadership School message after the students return home

Sample Schedule
  • 9:00 am -- 9:30 am: Parents arrive, coffee and snacks in Pasquaney
  • 9:30 am -- 10:50 am: Learning Together Workshop
  • 10:50 am - 11:15 am: Slideshow and celebration with students
  • 11:15 am: Lunch with your child (if you can't join us earlier, feel free to come just for lunch)
  • 12:00 noon: Departure (If your child's school departs later in the day, additional activities will be offered for parents.)

    A $10 donation is suggested.

  • Outreach Programs

  • Traditionally a 3-day format
  • Takes place at the participating school and/or community
  • Includes the same (but condensed) course work and options as the Residential Program
  • Facilitated by 1 Leadership School teacher per 20 students
  • Parent Night is held during the week to discuss the materials that the students are being exposed to, as well as giving tools to bring the messages of The Leadership School into the home and community
  • Our portable climbing wall is available for an additional fee
  • Half the cost of the program is underwritten by Kieve-Wavus Education, Inc.
