Reid Anderson

Originally from Philadelphia, Reid was a Kieve camper for five years,a counselor for 5 years, and has been the Kieve Assistant Director for Tripping since 2003. Reid taught Computer Science and Robotics for seven years at the Pomfret School in Pomfret, CT. He now resides with his wife, Jess Anderson, in Dresden, Me.

Owen Cassidy

Owen is an outdoor enthusiast, born and raised in the great state of Maine. While attending University of Maine at Farmington for a Business Economics degree, he took a semester off to attend the National Outdoor Leadership School in Lander, Wyoming. During his stay with NOLS, Owen honed his leadership skills and developed his ability to pass these skills onto others. After graduating from NOLS, he became a Maine Whitewater Guide and continued to pass on his wilderness knowledge to young campers in the northern Maine woods. In the winters, he applied these skills to teaching and coaching snowboarding in Rangeley, Maine. When outside and on leisure time, Owen loves to find himself paddling whitewater, telemark skiing, snowboarding or just enjoying what the state of Maine has to offer.

Mark Diedering

Mark joins the Kieve staff after completing his undergraduate coursework in Outdoor Education at the University of New Hampshire. Mark has previously worked with The Leadership School during the 2004 and 2005 school year, and has also gained a wide range of experiences working with at risk youth in therapeutic outdoor settings. Mark enjoys a wide variety of outdoor activities from hiking and camping to ultimate Frisbee and disc golf. Inspired by experiential education, Mark hopes to share his love of adventure and personal challenge with students of The Leadership School.

Jen is thrilled to live and work in Maine after spending the last five years in Virginia. She grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Richmond to attend the University of Richmond where she majored in Leadership Studies and minored in History. After graduation, Jen discovered her passion for experiential education as she began teaching conflict resolution with the Richmond Peace Education Center. She worked with a diverse array of participants, but particularly enjoyed working with adolescents and teens. Looking to fuse her love for teaching conflict resolution and international education, Jen spent the past summer working at Legacy International’s Global Youth Village, where she taught “Dialogue and Peacebuilding” with the camp’s Iraqi Peacebuilding program and helped to develop and teach a new course called “Lead Your World” for the camp’s Indonesian Leadership program. Jen is now excited to spread a love of leadership to students at Kieve and to explore the beautiful state of Maine!

Forrest is a native of Nobleboro, Kieve camper, veteran counselor since 2005, and trip leader for Kieve West, our counselor in training program, in Colorado. Since graduation he has been an Assistant Director for Tripping for our Kieve Summer Camp for Boys. Forrest brings a wealth of experience working with young people and we are pleased to have him on the Leadership School team.

Ryan joined The Leadership School staff in the spring of 2010 as an intern and spent this past summer as one of the Environmental Educators on Hog Island, a neaby Audubon Nature Reserve. A native of Maine, Ryan has a great love for the outdoors and for working with young people.

Nicky is a May 2009 graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington. At Farmington she received an education in Psychology from a encouraging and dependable staff which has motivated her to always think outside the box. She has a passion for photography, film, reading, outdoors, and she is always ready for an adventure. We are pleased to have her join us as a Teacher this year at The Leadership School.

Caryn is a recent graduate in Recreation Leadership with clusters in Music and Psychology. She has a great love for experiential education and hands on learning. She gained camp experience working for Camp Friendship in Virginia where she was an adventure counselor who took the campers caving, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, and worked with them on the ropes course. Caryn has experience working with youth in indoor settings through being a substitute teacher in Nevada for the last three years. She has a great respect for the outdoors. In her free time she likes to read books, enjoy music, or be on a lake or river.

A former Kieve camper and counselor, Tyler is a graduate of Georgia Southern University with a degree in Outdoor Recreation. After graduation, he was in Florida, working with children and young adults as a substitute teacher. during the summer of 2009, Tyler made a road trip out of getting from Florida to Maine and had the chance to see the whole east coast. When not working, Tyler enjoys biking and playing guitar. Tyler is excited to be back in Maine and working at The Leadership School.

Andrew Bouffard

Bouf is the staff trainer and head snowboard coach at Saddleback Mountain. He also teaches alpine skiing and telemark skiing. He has been on trips to Nicaragua to help impoverished people, and to Thailand to enjoy some of the best rock climbing. Bouf plans to chase winter for the next few years around the globe.

Lauren is a native Mainer and is quite excited to be back in Maine after four years in New York, Spain and Wisconsin. For the past two summers, Lauren traveled to Boulder Junction, Wisconsin to direct a wilderness expedition program and run an equipment room at Camp Manito-wish. She loves being in the outdoors and experientially working with groups on ropes courses and in the wilderness. When Lauren is outside, she loves to hike, snowshoe, and climb rock, ice, and trees. Lauren is also passionate about making sculptures and baking.

Carolyn graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine in Spring 2010 with a degree in Politics. She has experience leading hiking trips for the junior high in her hometown, Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, and spent four summers teaching at a Boy Scout camp. She loves doing anything in the outdoors including hiking, snowboarding and rock climbing. Throughout college she raced on the Bates sailing team. Other interests include traveling, reading and cooking.

Kathryn recently graduated in Recreation Leadership with a minor in Culinary Arts. She loves working with kids and being outdoors. She just finished up her first internship this summer working as the children activities coordinator at a resort in Florida. She is looking to expand her knowledge of the outdoors. In her free time she is always up for an adventure.

Nick recently graduated from Texas State University in December of 2009 with a degree in interdisciplinary studies. For the past five months after graduation, he worked as a substitute teacher in the San Marcos Independent School District. Since the school year finished, he has been looking for a way to merge my love of the outdoors with my passion for teaching and making a difference in kids’ lives, and believes Kieve is the answer. Nick also looks forward to experiencing my first full winter in Maine and taking in all the state has to offer like the lobster. In his free time, he enjoys rock climbing, swimming, movies, skiing, and listening to music around a fire.

Kayleigh graduated from Elmira College in 2009 with a degree in Biology-Chemistry. In addition to a love of sciences, she has a passion for the outdoors. Will graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008 with a BA in Political Science. At Carolina, he honed his leadership and teamwork skills as a captain on the varsity fencing team for 3 years and a starting member for 4. He has, since graduating, honed his skills working with youth at Eckerd Youth Alternatives and Camp Looking Glass. After working in a tent for a year at Eckerd, Will is enthused about the upgrade to a Cabin at Kieve and is especially excited to be working with all the skilled teachers and staff. When Will is not working, he loves to ride his bikes (affectionately named betty and sue), go camping, work out, consume enormous amounts of books and newspapers, and drink way too much coffee!

Anthony is a native of Daytona Beach, FL. who graduated from Johnson & Wales University, North Miami Campus. There, he obtained his B.S. in Marketing. He is currently enrolled in Full Sail University’s Masters in Internet Marketing program. He enjoys swimming, teaching and helping others. Anthony has held numerous leadership roles for local to national organizations. He’s excited to return to the Leadership School and looks forward to meeting you.

Helena is from north of Boston but has spent a lot of time in and around Damariscotta, most recently as a counselor at Wavus this past summer. She is a 2010 graduate of Bates College, where she played played field hockey and spent lots of time outdoors. She enjoys working with children and being a part of the Leadership School this year.

I have completed my Bachelor of Science in Outdoor Recreation Leadership and Management from Northern Michigan University. I am originally from Michigan, but I have been living and working in North Carolina. I love to spend my time outdoors and enjoy life, much of my time is spent rock climbing, backpacking, and kayaking. In the evenings I enjoy listening to jazz and folk records, while drinking Turkish coffee. I enjoy teaching children, as well as learning as much as I can through my surrounds and environment.
