Leadership School Educator

Michelle Cote
Furman University, 2012
BA in English
Started at The Leadership School: August 2012

Michelle grew up in South Carolina, but recently returned to her home state of Maine. She recently graduated from Furman University in Greenville, SC with a degree in English and a concentration in Education. She eventually plans to teach middle school English. Until then, Michelle is very excited to be working with the Leadership School.

Guillaume Gutkin-Nicolas
Started at the Leadership School: March 2013

Gui was born in Montreal and moved to Boston when he was six. He volunteered as a teacher's assistant at a day camp called Lexplorations for three summers. He loves playing sports such as soccer, snowboarding, running, and swimming. He has recently discovered a passion for endurance and obstacle races and participated in his second one this summer.

Will Hackett
Muhlenberg College - 2010
Started at The Leadership School: August 2011

Will is an native of Belle Meade, NJ and spent six years as a camper at Kieve. During his five years as a counselor for Kieve Boys Camp, Will worked with children ranging from 8 - 16 years and led several extended trips into the Maine Wilderness. He is a 2010 graduate of Muhlenberg College. Will loves watching and playing sports, especially football and getting out into the Maine Woods.

Tyler Hill

Tyler is from Beaver Dam, WI and has been a counselor at Kieve for three summers. He is excited about being on the TLS staff. Tyler's favorite activities are landsports and arts.

Courtney Krolikoski

Courtney is a native of the seacoast area of New Hampshire and is very excited to spend the spring in Maine! She graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 2007 with a BA in psychology and then from the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary in 2011 with a MA in Comparative Medieval History. Her hobbies include fencing, ballroom dancing, photography, and just about anything outside.

Hannah Lovejoy

Hannah is from northwestern Connecticut where she grew up hiking and canoeing along the Appalachian Trail. Her interests include traveling, gardening, hiking and spending time with others. She is excited to bring her passions of the outdoors and working with others to the Leadership School.


Kayleigh MacFarlane

Kayleigh graduated from Elmira College in 2009 with a degree in Biology-Chemistry. In addition to a love of sciences, she has a passion for the outdoors. She is eager to meet all the students that will be taking part in The Leadership School this year. Kayleigh also loves hiking, acting, painting, and spontaneous dancing.

Matthew Markot

Matt is a native of Middletown, CT and loves to travel, backpack, and ride his bike. A camper and counselor at Winona Camps in Bridgton, ME for eight years, he is no stranger to how special a place like Kieve-Wavus is. He is super excited to join TLS and can't wait to learn from his co-educators and students alike!

Paul McCarthy

A graduate in 2007 from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. in Nutritional Science, Paul has personal trainer certification through the ISSA that he completed during his senior year of college. After graduating he moved to Montana for a year and managed a gym in Bozeman, MT. Paul enjoys playing sports, traveling, and hiking.

Cameron Miller

Joined The Leadership School: August 2011

Cameron came to the Leadership School from Orem, UT. He brings enthusiasm, creativity and compassion to the Leadership School team. In his free time, Cam loves sports, hanging out with friends and exploring Maine.

Mary Montgomery

Mary is from Atlanta GA. She worked for Moondance Adventures the past three summers in Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, and Wyoming. Mary's interests include anything outdoors, reading, and photography.

Zoe Nahatis

Started at The Leadership School: August 2013

During college Zoe volunteered with Peer Health Exchange teaching ninth grade health classes, participated in service trips to Alaska and Guatemala with Global Outreach, and spent summers working with developmentally disabled adults. Zoe's interests include travel, dance, yoga, and the outdoors.

Tyler Pace
Connecticut College, 2007: History and Italian

Teacher with The Leadership School since 2010

After Tyler graduated from Connecticut College in 2007, he spent a year working as a Student Services Assistant at the Umbra Institute in Perugia, Italy. He then spent some time back home in Kentucky before heading to graduate school in Boston. Tyler will bring his vast experience and deeply grounded Kieve history as camper, counselor and educator to the Bridge Year faculty. In his spare time, Tyler loves to play Ultimate Frisbee, make friends with dogs, read Dante and Wendell Berry and listen to all kinds of Bluegrass music.

Jessi Panico
Vassar College, 2012
Started at the Leadership School: August 2012

Jessi grew up in upstate New York and always loved traveling, hiking and camping with her family. She graduated from Vassar College in 2012, where she studied English (and spent her Junior year reading old books in Oxford). She also enjoyed steering boats as a coxswain on the Vassar Rowing Team and playing percussion with the Wind Ensemble. She loves drinking tea, frequenting the library for new books, and playing scrabble. She decided she wanted to work with young people when she realized how much she preferred working at summer camp to any other job, and hopes eventually to be an English teacher.

Erik Phelan

Erik came to the woods of Maine from New York. Disaster relief work in Haiti in 2011 ignited an interest in working with children. At the Leadership School, Erik connects with students through joy, exploration and creative expression. When not working with students, Erik likes to run(miles and miles. . .) , dance and listen to music.

Christine Roback
Hamilton College, 2012

Christine is a recent graduate from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY. During her four years there she was involved in a variety of activities that sparked her interest in experiential education and leadership. Christine was involved in the college pre-orientation program, a leader for the Alternative Spring Break program, and was a founding member of the marathon canoe racing team. When that water freezes and she can't canoe, Christine enjoys both alpine and telemark skiing. A native of Utica, NY, Christine is excited to spend the next season in Maine!

Nick Sanchez
National Outdoor Leadership School
Started at The Leadership School: August 2012

Nick is from Dumbarton, NH and has spent eight summers at Kieve, including two as a counselor. Nick is a graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School and has spent time backpacking in Colorado and the South West US. He is excited to take on the new challange of the Leadership School and is looking forward to working with youth full time.

Ruth Solow

At Grinnell Ruth worked for the community arts council, played at preschool, and was involved in student wellness initiatives on campus. Though she grew up in New York City, Ruth was introduced to the wilderness at Wavus, where she spent three years as a camper and one as a counselor. After four years of living in the cornfields, Ruth is excited to return to Maine.

Mary Strang

Mary is from Winter Haven, FL and has been a counselor at Camp Wavus for two summers. She loves the outdoors and traveling to new places. Her favorite activities are hiking, canoeing, swimming, wakeboarding, and tennis.

Ben Swanson

Ben was a camper at Kieve for 10 years and has been a counselor for four years. While at Gettysburg College he worked for the Gettysburg Recreation and Activities Board leading outing trips and Experiential Education exercises. "I can't wait to start at The Leadership School at Kieve - my second home"!

Sam Thorburn

Sam was born in Lewiston, Maine but grew up outside Philadelphia, PA. He recently graduated from the University of St. Andrews located in Scotland. In his off time Sam enjoys anything outside (hiking and kayaking in particular) and loves sports including hockey, golf, football, and baseball. He has worked at summer camps before and is excited to start at The Leadership School.

Anna Weissman

Anna is from New York City but spent the last four years studying Anthropology at Grinnell College in Iowa. She has a lot of experience working with youth in many different capacities, from juvenille homes to summer camps. Anna loves dancing and swimming and is very excited to be living in Maine!

Roscoe Wetlaufer

Started at the Leadership School: August 2011

Roscoe graduated from Stanford University in 2011 with a degree in American Studies. Since then he’s worked in consulting, with dogsleds, and for Kieve-Wavus Veterans’ Camps. And he’s thrilled to be returning as a counselor this summer to Camp Kieve. When he’s not out and about at Kieve, Roscoe spends his time writing and hiking.

Leah Yacknin-Dawson

Leah was born in Pittsburgh, PA. In the past she has worked as both a camp counselor and youth group advisor. Her favorite outdoor hobbies include hiking and camping. Other hobbies include music, reading, and writing. Leah is very excited to be working at The Leadership School.
