Plan Summary and Timetable
Forever Wild
Damariscotta Lake is a beautiful, unspoiled gem only an hour from
Maine’s largest city, Portland. Over the last few years land
values have risen exponentially and development pressure is acute.
Kieve currently owns or protects about 3 miles of lake frontage.

PHASE I
The first phase of renewal and construction addresses the most urgent
health, safety and infrastructure needs. The waterfront, hub of
summer activity, has been improved with new Bath Houses giving particular
attention to erosion control and aesthetics. It provides the first
cluster of four-season cabins and staff housing on top of the hill/spine.
A Climbing space/Bunkhouse/Infirmary-mixed use building will be
situated adjacent to the ropes course. Innisfree, the historic center
of camp, will be revamped yet keep its interior and exterior look
intact. The Summer Camp ‘Tripshack’ will be relocated
next to Pasquaney with a loading dock and access to new Laundry
facilities. The Arts Center improvements include plumbing, electrical
and structural work. The old Infirmary will be updated to serve
as the new Staff breakout space. A new pedestrian path will link
the Phase II Entrance parking with the top of the hill. A new road
layout and parking will remove vehicles from the center of camp.
Approximate cost: $3,000,000
Time to accomplish: approximately 12-18 months
PHASES II & III
The second and third phases of the plan provides the cluster
of year-round cabins on cabin row. In addition, renovations of
instructional
spaces will bring them up to code and make them appropriate for
year-round use,
energy efficient and attractive. Kieve will have a newly renovated
Welcome Center and office to greet visitors. A new parking area
will remove vehicles from the main campus and strengthen the
pathway and pedestrian qualitites for all. A pedestrian path
will link
Pasquaney with the Waterfront cabins. The Maintenance building
and shop will receive modest additions to support the program
work at the campus. A new road layout and parking will remove
vehicles
from the center of camp and provide access to the Waterfront
cabins along an existing path.
Approximate cost: $4,000,000
Time to accomplish: approximately 9-18 months
Recognition opportunities are available to fund the renovation
or construction of specific parts of the Master Plan.
ANNUAL GIVING FUND
It will be critical to Kieve's ongoing operation to increase annual
giving over the course of the capital campaign. The programs for
kids from Maine and beyond depend upon that support.
Goal: $1 million
Time to accomplish: 36 months
The Kresge Foundation Challenge Grant
We raised the necessary funds before the end of 2006
to qualify for the Kresge Foundation challenge grant.
Thanks for your help and support and
for being such loyal friends of Kieve.
