Remainder Trust
There are many ways in which you

explore the Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) – a legacy planning
tool that can benefit both you and your family as well as KieveWavus.
A CRT is a widely used tool that allows lots of flexibility and
can provide an income stream for yourself and/or a number of beneficiaries
as well as benefit KieveWavus.
Typically a CRT is designed to pay income to one
or more trust noncharitable beneficiaries (usually the donor and
the donor’s spouse) for life or for a term of years, after
which the trust assets are paid to or held for qualified charitable
beneficiaries like KieveWavus.
The best assets to give to a CRT are highly appreciated
assets in which the donor has a low basis. If an individual sells
these assets without a CRT, the gain on the sale will be subject
to a capital gains tax. A Maine resident for example, would have
a combined tax as high as 28.5%.
Funding for a CRT could be provided by any number
of assets including appreciated stock or real estate.
There are numerous benefits for you to create
a Charitable Remainder Trust with KieveWavus.

not a tax shelter that you invest in to make a return. A CRT is
first and foremost a method to benefit a charity like KieveWavus. If
that is your intent, a gift to a CRT gives you, as the donor, the
following benefits:
- You receive a current charitable income tax
deduction for the present value of the remainder interest, that
is, the portion which will go to KieveWavus.
- Your assets are transferred to the CRT and may
be subsequently sold without the imposition of federal income
tax on any gain realized.
- The noncharitable beneficiaries may receive
more income after the transfer than the asset was earning before
the transfer.
- If you are the trustee, you may control the
investment of the CRT’s assets.
- You can receive recognition during your lifetime
for a generous gift to KieveWavus.
