Meet our Teachers

Stephen Stroud - Director
Hobart College
BA in Mathematics
Lesley Univesity
MS in Environmental Education
Started at The Leadership School: August 2008

Stephen has been a science teacher, a wilderness instructor, and group facilitator since he delved into education in 1992. He’s spent time living in Australia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, the Berkshires, and now Maine! He lived in a thatch hut for a year, traveled all over North America while earning a Masters of Science in Environmental Education from the Audubon Expedition Institute, started an exploration-based science school in Massachusetts, and developed a community amphibian monitoring project in Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont. He loves compost, plays old-time banjo and guitar, and is starting to learn fiddle. He lives with his wife, Phoebe, their baby daughter, Stella, and their dog, Charlotte.

Henry R. Kennedy - Executive Director
Henry has been at Kieve his whole life. He was a Kieve camper from 1967 through 1972 and a counselor from 1973-1980. Over the years, it is fair to say, Henry has been on every one of Kieve's trips. Henry is a graduate of Colby College and is the executive director of Kieve-Wavus Education, Inc. Henry oversees the entire Kieve operation but lives for the summer to be out in the Maine wilderness with the campers and counselors alike. He lives in Cumberland, Maine during the school year and the Red Farm House during the summer months with his wife B.J., daughter Blair, and son Sam.

Dick Kennedy - Founder, The Leadership School
Richard C. Kennedy, Founder of the Leadership Decisions Institute (now The Leadership School) and of the Science Camp for Girls, was Camp Kieve's Director from 1959-1990. Dick is a former member of the Maine State Board of Education and the Governor's Task Force on Teenage Pregnancy and Parenting. He is an Emeritus Trustee of The Artisans College, in Rockport, Maine, an Emeritus Trustee of Lincoln Academy in Newcastle, Maine, and an Emeritus founding member of the Board of Riley School in Rockport, Maine. Early in his career, Dick was founding Assistant Headmaster of the Pingree School in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. Dick remains very close to Kieve, assisting in development activities and program design. He and his wife, Nancy, spend their winters on Sanibel Island in Florida. In the spring of 2003 Dick was awarded the prestigious Jefferson Award for his contributions to Maine education. He received a BA from Columbia College and an MA from Stanford University.

Amy Lyndaker- Program Development Specialist
SUNY Utica/Rome
BA in Psycholgy
Started at The Leadership School: August 2006

Originally from Upstate NY, Amy came to The Leadership School after witnessing the experience for her own daughter. With a degree in Psychology she has a great appreciation for the benefits that a place like The Leadership School has for teens, and is excited to be a part of it. As the Program Development Specialist Amy is able to do what she loves, talk about The Leadership School to anyone who will listen. When not working at The Leadership School, Amy loves spending time with her husband, Luke, and their two children, Meaghan and Andrew.
