A love of the state that he grew up in pared with his love of adventure courses has brought Julian back to Maine after spending time in the Adirondacks of New York State. Being active in the outdoors all of his life led Julian to a degree in Parks, Recreation and Tourism from the University of Maine Orono. Now back in Maine Julian is looking forward to all of the outdoor sports available here, as well as lobster!

After graduating from Green Mountain College in Vermont in 2003, Jason heard that The Leadership School was hiring and jumped at the chance to sign on. Having been a student at The Leadership School himself as a 7th grader at Nobleboro Central School, he was excited to be able to create the same great experience he had for other kids in Maine. Since beginning as a teacher in 2005 Jason has worked as the waterfront director for Camp Kieve during the summer, and has recently transitioned into the role of Professional Development Specialist where he can have a deeper impact on the curriculum of The Leadership School. When not working Jason likes to play golf, Frisbee golf, and spend time working on his house with his wife, Alice.

In the public school system for 7 years prior to coming to The Leadership School, Sarah is now pursuing a graduate program in Experiential Education Leadership at the University of Maine Farmington. Along with teaching, Sarah loves spending time outdoors with her husband, Sam, and their six year old son, George.

Having grown up in Norman, Oklahoma, Kristen is looking forward to her first Maine winter. With a Bachelors Degree in Sociology and Psychology from Oklahoma State University, Kristen fell in love with Maine during an Outward Bound sea kayaking trip. Having spent several summers counseling at an Oklahoma Girl Scout camp, Kristen has a passion for experiential education and is anxious to share her large repertoire of crazy camp songs.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Community Health Education from University of Maine at Farmington, Heather is excited to work with the kids. When not at work, Heather enjoys camping and loves to cook!

John came to The Leadership School as a PRO in the fall of 2005, was promoted to intern in 2006, and is now a teacher. Prior to coming to The Leadership School, John worked as a substance abuse counselor for 2 years in Augusta, and was in the United States Marine Corps serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Now back in Maine, John uses the experiences and knowledge that he has to inspire students to do the best that they can. With a passion in the work that he does, and a true belief in the experiential model, John is excited to back for his fourth year. When not working at The Leadership School or on the Ropes course at Wavus, John is spending time with his son, Nick.

Shell is very excited to be joining The Leadership School. Having just completed a summer working at Wavus Camp for Girls, Shell anticipates a school year that is just as much fun. A recent graduate of the University of Maine with a certificate in teaching, Shell looks forward to expanding her knowledge of teaching. Currently Shell is spending what free time she has learning Hindi for an anticipated trip to India.

Sigrid graduated from UVM in 1998 with a B.A in English. Previously on staff at the Leadership School from 1999-2001, first as an Intern then as a Teacher, Sigrid rejoined us as a Teacher in Fall 2007. During her time away, Sigrid took time to travel and guide in Alaska, gaining extensive back-country experience in the US and Canada. She loves to play outside - dirt biking, kayaking, hiking, etc and is very happy to be back at the Leadership School.

After graduating from University of Maine at Farmington in 2006 with a degree in Rehabilitation Services, Jill headed to Colorado to enjoy hiking in the "incredibly huge mountains." It was while she was there that she discovered her love for working with kids through her employment with a wilderness adventure program. Recently however, Jill decided that it was time to come back to the east coast, closer to family and the ocean. She is excited to be at The Leadership School at looking forward to whatever adventure that may bring. When she is not working she loves to paint, build picture frames, mountain bike, snowboard, and BAKE PIES!!!

Darren Wallach

Since receiving a B.A. in History from George Washington University, and an M.A. in American and New England Studies from University of Southern Maine, Darren has had many opportunities that he is excited to share with incoming students. After college Darren served one year as a youth worker for Americorps, and later taught Environmental Education in New York, New Hampshire, and Georgia. In 2004-2005 Darren had the incredible opportunity to serve as a Jesuit Volunteer in Nepal teaching English and Environmental Studies. For the past two years Darren has been teaching social studies and Character Education in Boston. It is Darren’s belief in the importance of teaching youth to communicate effectively and positively that brought him here to The Leadership School. When not working with youth Darren loves to hike, travel, meditate and read.

Leigh Williamson

Leigh is a recent graduate from William Smith College, located in the Finger Lakes region of western New York. There, she studied both French and Childhood Education/Special Education. She pursued her love for the French language by studying abroad in France where French and Francophone Studies became her major, but it was through the Education Program that she discovered her passion for teaching. After graduating with a B.A. in French and dual certification in Childhood Education and Special Education, she saw the Leadership School as the perfect way to put her teaching skills to use and to share her passion with the rest of the Leadership School staff.
Leigh has a very diverse background, having lived in four different states throughout her childhood. She grew up mainly in New York and so considers it her home state. Now, she is excited to call such a beautiful state as Maine home!

Douglas Wilson

Doug graduated from Unity College in Maine in 2007 with a B.S. in Adventure Education and Adventure Therapy. Prior to working for Kieve he completed an Adventure Educator's Semester with Outward Bound and became a field instructor for the Wilderness program in Maine and the Discovery program in South Carolina during the summer. Doug has hiked Mt. Katahdin and Mt. Washington and canoed on the Rangeley Lakes extensively. In his time off Doug can be found rock climbing, canoeing, and backpacking.

Anxious to remove himself from the “southern box” that he grew up in, Jonathan was excited to get a response from his interest in working for The Leadership School. Having lived in the south all of his life, Jonathan wants to see what life is like in the North. A graduate of Georgia Southern University with a degree in Health and Kinesiology, Jonathan brings a huge amount of energy and enthusiasm to The Leadership School staff. To Jonathan, every day is an adventure and he is excited to meet all of the incoming students and teachers

With an undergraduate major in psychology and a minor in Spanish Natasha has spent the last three years working in a psychology lab researching social and personality development in children.

Lucas has been working with kids from Pennsylvania to California and has currently finished his second season working with At Risk youth through Americorps. He sees The Leadership School as his next big adventure and is excited to add Maine students to his list of those he has worked with. With a Bachelors Degree in journalism, and a minor in film studies, Lucas has a broad range of interests and experiences that he brings to The Leadership School. After growing up on Peaks Island in Maine, and traveling to Washington State for college, Jacob is back in Maine looking to share his experiences with as many kids as possible. With a huge amount of energy, and an interest in everyone’s story, Jacob feels that he has as much to learn from the students he interacts with as they do from him. When not working at The Leadership School Jacob likes to expand his VHS collection, knowing that they will one day be extinct, as well as play lacrosse and many other “amazingly fun activities.”

Lee graduated from Colby College in 2007 and since then has taken part in many community based programs working with youth. His most recent experience found him managing the Community Mentoring Program for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Midcoast Maine. When he is not working with kids Lee loves to spend time running, reading and, of course, fishing!

After finishing her second summer working for Wavus Camp for Girls, Malory was not yet ready to leave the world of Kieve-Wavus, so, when she heard of an opening at The Leadership School she jumped at it. As a graduate of Exercise Science at The University of North Alabama, Malory hopes to eventually work as a physical therapist specializing in children with disabilities. For now, however, Malory is thrilled to be able to continue her passion for Kieve-Wavus through The Leadership School.

Cara graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 2007 and came to Maine to work at Wavus Camp for Girls. During her time there she developed a passion of kids, teaching, and ice cream. The Leadership School seemed to be a natural fit for Cara and her love of children. She is very excited to be joining The Leadership School staff and can not wait to meet the kids!

Daniel Richardson

In an effort to find a "different" way to contribute and to explore a new direction, Daniel came across The Leadership School and was instantly drawn in. The idea of experiential learning, leadership and teambuilding in a camp like environment sparked not only nostalgia, but an interest and desire to participate in what ever way he could.
While this new position is a significant shift from his University Political Science area, or typical sales or manual labor, Daniel is up for the challenge and very excited to do whatever he can to enhance the experience for the students. He hopes to contribute kindness and humor, and if those should fail he still has his guitar.

A native of Washington, ME, Amos was a camper at Kieve for 8 years, attended Kieve West, and has recently been a counselor for our Summer Camp. In his off-time, he enjoys running and competing in marathons as well as everything to do with the outdoors.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Emily recently graduated with a degree in Psychology from Sewanee: The University of the South. She is an avid outdoor enthusiast and loves archery and running. She is excited to work at The Leadership School and is looking forward to a trip to the Ukraine in March with the Peace Corp.
